1999 Ford Explorer Premium Stereo System from h---

The person who previously owned this explorer ordered the top of the line stereo system/with changer. I have had the in dash system repaired several times and the cd still does not work. Called Ford and they want $1200 for a new one--can't afford new one--does anyone have any suggestions other than going to the junk yard and looking for one that probably does not work? This system also controls my air/heater etc.
